Preparation Method
First, rinse the Kullakar red rice and lentils thoroughly in clean water. Soak them together for about one hour to help them cook faster and become soft.
Bring the vegetable or chicken stock to a boil in a pot. Drain the soaked rice and lentils, add them to the pot, season lightly with salt, and cover with a lid. Cook on low heat for 30–40 minutes until the grains turn soft and the mixture becomes creamy.
Meanwhile, heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in minced garlic, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until aromatic.
